Which part's of yourself do you put into your art?

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 11, 2013, 9:23 AM

The other day I had an interesting conversation with Cappippuni and Mirz123
about subconscious things that we put into our artwork that come from our real lives!
I thought I'd list a few of the one's that I'm most aware of!

I might update it over time if I notice any others too, ohoho *u*

I heard that saying waaaaay too much while growing up as a kid HAHA.
And as a result, all my character's have rather square eyes!

The Circus Princess

My Grandmother would always tell me she'd suggested my name because she liked a Princess called Stephanie from Monaco.
Seems random since our bloodline's so painfully English?
Anywho, this Princess Stephanie ranaway from the Royal family to a Circus with her husband and lived in a caravan LMFAO.
And naturally since I was named after a Circus Princess, I became one myself too. duhh
Thanks grandmother <3

Goldilocks and the three bears!

Steffne Dollz box by steffne
My Grandparents always referred to me as Goldilocks when I was a kid
and coincidentally I have 3 bears which are the most significant to me!

:bulletblue: Firstly there's Blueted, he was the very first ever bear that I was given as a baby c:
random fact: I made my Grandmother sew a red tongue on him when I was about 5 because I thought he looked too grumpy!?

:bulletred: Next is Redted, he was given to me at a really young age by my Uncle who's really important to me!
I accidentally left him on a Postman Pat ride in Sainsbury's, luckily I remembered fairly quickly and went running back in sobbing.
Some other child had picked him up so I snatched him back off them and ran away HAHAHAHA.

:bulletyellow: Then lastly is Yellowted, I've had her since I was really young too and always referred to her as Blueted's girlfriend LOL.
When my Grandmother had to go into a home she taken a shining to yellow ted so I let her have her,
which I was quite anxious of because she liked ripping the sofa apart at the time D:
Remarkably I got her back in perfect condition after she passed away ;A;

My three circus bears were based around these three special bears!
I wasn't very imaginative as a kid with names so Redted was renamed to Razzle and Yellowted to Sunshine :3

Blueted's personality is pretty old and senile since he's the oldest bear I have LMAO.

Razzle's is grumpy as you might recall from Calvin's Story >__>
this is pent up rage from being left on that Postman Pat ride. Srry guyz.

And Sunshine's the sweetest of them all, since she helped take care of my Grandmother when she was really ill! <3

The Ugly Colours

Trixie Dollz box by steffne
I felt like all the character's that I was creating a few years ago were all looking the same because of my own interests,
so I decided to try and create one that based around orange and green since I dislike those colours the most.
And thus Trixie was born! o:

Polly Pockets & Little stuffs

You've probably all noticed that I draw really tiny stuff!
I don't doubt that this came from staring at little Polly Pocket world's so much *u*
Background's are by far one of my most favourite things to draw which I've noticed a lot of people try to avoid on DA O___O?
Creating little environment's to play around in is one of my absolute favourite passtimes <3
Character's without a background to me are just lost in a blackhole LOL.
I generally just like little things though. I literally fight for the smallest slice of pizza because it looks the cutest HAHA.
For my final year School exam my art teacher gave me an A4 sheet of paper instead of an A3 one,
because he'd noticed I seemed to get overwhelmed with a larger canvas and didn't perform as well o:

Paper People

For the majority of my life I'd make playset's out of paper and blutac!
I have an entire folder of a world that I created and kept adding to for literally years c:
It was complete with a hotel, hospital, taxi service, catalogues, campsite, computer stores,

excuse the craptastic pictures, have some examplez:

The day that I found I could start recreating these in Flash was a rather incredible day!
Although I must admit, I've found I get quite anxious about uploading my playset things online?
I guess it's because I'm so used to them being a personal thing that I hide away and work on.
That's just what they've been to me for almost my entire life LOL. >n<

Help me I'm blind

I need glasses but I rarely ever wear them. Although I don't have a choice at the moment because they're broken HA.
I love living in a blurry little Stephaworld!
Seeing the world in full detail overwhelms me and I try take in all the detail but it gives me headaches @____@;
Sometimes I see things and think DAMN THAT LOOKS AMAZING WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT,
then I get up close and realise it looks nothing like what I thought it did.
Then I'm all OH YES I CAN NOW STEAL THAT IDEA.. from my own imagination.. hehh.
I think it explains why I'm happiest drawing cutesy simplified works, since I opt to see the world in the simplest way possible XD

My logo is a little piece of candy with my name on it.

That's all I can think of for now!
Have you guys noticed anything that you do?
I'd be really interested in hearing about it!

I'll shove feature's and other um ..stuff here? ye.

You may or may not be one of the coolest people I know on or off the interwebz. I notice that I try to put a lot of alternative style into what I do.

I dunno if i can pin point any parts taht i put into my art.
But i think more offten then not i make things or draw things i want to be or be more like.
for example i love to make plush toys and if im feeling sad or lonely i tend to go sew a freind up.
sounds kind of sad and depressing but its not really.

I also like to draw trees and curvy ladies. and think thats because i great up in the contry and ill always have a place in my heart for the contry.
And as for curvy ladies, i just really enjoy the shape and just seems natural to draw. :)

haha. thank you for that question though. I might think about it a bit harder. :)

Aw thanks haha! XD
It's a pretty random story isn't it LOL
AnnamaeTezuka Featured By Owner Aug 23, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
I think it's cool for its randomness~
Pastel-BunBun Featured By Owner Aug 13, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Welp, lets see here. BunBun was made by mixing a few things actually. Originally it was about me and my "ex" boyfriend.. he was a bluesugarbear.. and I was pinksugarbunny. But, because that all failed, and I still liked the cute little bunny and bear's and there colors, and well.. sugar (who dont lol) I mixed them together. BunBun is a mix of everything I like!! BunBun - as in bunny, and the buns in her hair. I was known as the pinksugarbunny.. so.. I focused more on the bunny, but added things like the blue (blue and pink - soo cute together) and the buns in her hair. Not to mention that the buns also go for the squishy buns that I sell, and there kinda the shape of the dango (that I also love to death) lol. I love stars, hearts, ruffles, and hoodies. I have brown hair irl. But, also because I have a love for pastels.. I eventually dulled her colors to make her more soft looking. And of course the bunny clip in her hair is "pinksugarbunny" :D
Hope that wasnt to confusing.. lawlz.
Sorda was all over the place in my head.. and normally I dont brake it down on paper, or in words.. its just like.. bullets in my head (not the deadly kinda bullets) FAIL lol. xD

In my case the main source of influence are little animals (especially bunnies and cats, loooooove them!! *o*) and bears. About bears it is probably because since I was younger I always loved - and still love - teddy bears, their faces and fuzzy look makes me feel very happy and relaxed when I see one.
Besides that my two cats inspire me a lot. I love how animals are themselves and do what they want to do spontaneously, seeing them playing, sleeping, eating or being expressive when they want are a kind of freedom and insouciance, something we couldn't have in our stressed and not-always-beautiful world. Thus diving into an imaginary world, inventing little animals with some humans characteristics and building their worlds is like an escape of the gray reality. ^______^

From time to time I target to draw an human character, begin but I always can't resist to switch my idea and drawing a cute animal instead! ^w^

And I never added tiny little details into my works from now as everything was sooo blurry without my lost glasses (thanks to whoever who invented the zoom functionality into softwares!) and well, the other excuse is that my poor old portable barbecue laptop can't handle simple works without running slower than a anesthetized snail and is going to fail at any moment. n_n

Drawing humans is a really new thing for me too LOL
animal's are way cuter than people kfjdkhfjdhfdsj <333
Pet's have the most unique and silly personalities aswell,
I think I probably subconsciously use my previous pets personalities in my artwork XD

your recent little animal artworks have been really adorable by the way,
I spotted them on facebook the other day! *u*

HAHAH sorry to hear about your portable bbq snail!
Mine was just as awful as that too for so long, but thankfully I was finally able to buy a new one late last year x__x;
/just in time before it physically stopped working all together LOL
I hope you manage to get it fixed or are able to replace it soon! <3

:) I guess there are lots of little things from my personality that I put in... Sometimes I like to add a bit of humour or maybe make my characters more demure.

Buttercrumble bear is inspired by a few things! I suppose it comes from when my sister and I were younger and we had (and still do somewhere) have a huge collection of Beanie Baby toys. All the dog toys would be a family, all the cat toys would be a family etc. and we developed very complicated family trees. :giggle: Anyway, they'd all live in a town and we'd act out their lives like ordinary humans (but maybe add a bit of drama).

When ever anyone came over to play, we wouldn't let them play with the Beanie Babies because they just didn't know the back stories of all the animals and the voices they did were all wrong. :lmao:. ♥ Beanie Babies nowadays are just not the same. :( They're so ugly.

I guess I just like giving animals, human characteristics.

well for me, I'm greatly influenced by music. Some of the titles in my artwork here are references to music I've heard... Also I'm a writer so it trickles down into that side of my artwork as well.

Wow that's so cool that a bit of you has been poured into each of your characters!
One of the big things I shared with a character is Kenzie's bunchies. When I was little I would only ever wear bunchies until I was about eight :giggle: I loved the style and still do!

Oh, and I always loved the black or ethnic minority character in dolls or TV shows, like Flora from Winx Club, Taranee from WITCH, Alex from Totally Spies, Madison from My Gabrielle has a special place in my heart because of that.
steffne Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2013  Professional Artist
LMFAO I think that's subconsciously hit me too with Balluna! Curse you toylines! -__-;
I really love darker skinned character's too

N'AWW and that's cute with the bunchies! <333
I've worn some form of bow in my hair for most my life o:
I need to find a new stephabow to incorporate somewhere :C
Maddie-Pie Featured By Owner Aug 12, 2013

That calls for a new character :giggle: BOWTELLA

I always used to look at those bears whenever we went to Harrods but could never really afford one LOL!

I usually put emotions into my drawings, if sad I draw sad stuff, if happy etc.:la:
But now that I've started to get the hang on proper original characters, I put a little piece of my personality in all of 'em.:meow:
steffne Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2013  Professional Artist

regardless of my emotion, the artz comes out freakishly happy LOOOL
it's difficult making character's and not putting a little bit of yourself in them I think!
We're too trapped in our own little imagination's to truly know what it's like to be someone else wahhh :c

Moonlightsend Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist

... Damn. That was deep. I mean. Wow. .__.
Szuzka Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2013
I know that princess, she is terribly unhappy. Her mother was Grace Kelly. Itīs a cool but tragic family, cool because their originate from PIRATES. PIRATE PRINCESS STEFF! Youīre named after a pirate princess! Thatīs awesome!
I think I put my mouth shape into my drawings, my love for flowers and fashion style, fairies, butterflies, all that I like. And I only draw positive and pretty things for I know the ugly reality and I donīt need to paint that lol.
steffne Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2013  Professional Artist
LOL REALLY?! Whenever I tell people they have no idea who she is usually XD
Steffne the Circus Pirate princess?! PAHAHA

when I draw realism I end up subconsciously adding my own facial features to it too?! o:
I draw happy things as an escape from the ugly too! We don't need to dwell on the bad stuff :D
Szuzka Featured By Owner Aug 27, 2013
I know way too much about princess Stephanie :D Did you know she tried to be a singer and this song was in the top 10 charts?…

Nope we donīt :D Do you know it when you see a really creepy picture and wonder what kind of person the artist must be?
